How to Recover Saved Passwords in FlashFXP
This research article exposes the password secrets of FlashFXP application. It shows all interesting details including where all your FTP passwords are stored, how it is stored and how to recover it automatically.
FlashFXP Password Secrets
FlashFXP stores all your FTP login passwords at following location
[Windows Vista/7/8/10] C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\FlashFXP\[version]\sites.dat [Windows XP/2003] C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data\FlashFXP\[version]\sites.dat
Here [version] refers to version of FlashFXP (3,4,5 etc) used as folder name.
This “sites.dat” file contains FTP server configuration including username/password as shown below,
[XenArmor Site] created=40668.9448318287 Proxy=0 IP=ftp.xenarmor.com user=xenuser pass=98B0A3E52C1B port=21
Here “IP”, “user” & “pass” fields refer to FTP server, username & encoded password respectively.
FlashFXP encodes the FTP password using XOR algorithm with static magic text.
